Today`s Registered Dietitian Nutritionist Day celebrating the food and nutrition experts who improve the health and lives of their communities! We are proud to spotlight the achievements of Alex Calisto and Marielle Dominguez Gutierrez.
Alexandry Calisto, RD
Senior Wellness & Sustainability Manager, HBS
You all know her as Alex. Born in Montreal, Canada, Alexandry has a bachelor’s degree in nutrition at the University of Montreal. She became a Registered Dietitian in 2014 in Canada and in 2018 in the US. She has been with Restaurant Associates at HBS since January 2018 and Compass since February 2015. She had multiple roles within the company as an Assistant Director, Catering Manager, Operation Manager, and Dietitian. Prior to working for Compass Group, she worked in different schools and hospitals in their food service department.
Alexandry is recognized for her organizational skills. She also has a passion for food and developing healthy and flavorful menus. What Alex loves most about her job is providing accurate nutritional information for our customers. Whether it is through nutritional labels, new healthy dishes, culinary innovations, or educational tables, she loves to educate our guests and employees about nutrition.
Marielle Dominguez Gutierrez, MS RDN LDN
Wellness Manager, Executive Education at HBS
Marielle is a Registered and Licensed Dietitian. She obtained her nutrition bachelor’s degree in Mexico. She then completed a Dietetic Internship and Master of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics at New York University.
Prior to joining the HBS team, Marielle worked as a bariatric dietitian in New York City, providing nutritional care and promoting healthy eating habits. She also collaborated with a non-profit organization to pilot a wellness program for underserved communities in New York. Prior to that, she taught nutrition courses at a University in Mexico while functioning as a nutrition consultant for a local media company.
As a Wellness Manager, Marielle is part of the Restaurant Associates team, which provides all the catering and culinary services at HBS. Her role encompasses the nutrition program and wellness initiatives for the Exec Ed program.

Which African American figure do you admire the most and why?
“Jackie Robinson. Jackie was born in 1919 in Georgia, and he was the youngest of his siblings. He was the first African American to play in the major leagues and he played for the Brooklyn Dodgers. Jackie had to deal with countless incidents of racism, but he never gave into the hate. He managed his career with class and dignity. His jersey was number 42. I am an active athlete myself and I was honored to wear the number 42 jersey when I played baseball.”

If you could have a meal and conversation with any African American artist or figure, past or present. Who would you like to meet and what is one question you would like to ask them?
“I would say Malcolm X, he had the most impact on my life through his book. I would want to get his opinion to see what he thinks about what is going on in the world today - politics, the wars going on in society right now. I wish he were around to talk about who we are now. What he thinks about culture today, how we talk, what he thinks about technology, the many different races in this country. To see what he thinks about how far we have come and where we have struggled.”

What does Black History Month mean to you and what would you say to the future generations about the progress of African Americans in this country today?
“Black History Month is a crucial time to reflect on the achievements and contributions of African Americans. To future generations, I would express the ongoing progress, resilience, and achievements of African Americans, encouraging them to learn, appreciate, and contribute to creating a more loveable future for all.”

The cookbook comes from Sweet Home Café. Located in the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture, Sweet Home Café is managed by @restaurant_associates. The cafe showcases the rich culture and history of the African American people with traditional, authentic offerings as well as present-day food traditions.
